“Consumers”

The rhetoric of us vs them in media reaches its apex in the use of labeling.

This is subtle yet egregious even in how politicians refer to the general populace as if being identified simply by their ability to “purchase” and to “consume.”

Effectively putting themselves apart from the goings-on, adopting a rhetoric of “otherness”.

And what a joyful otherness it is! Is it not what it is creating inflation, reducing the accessibility of items just by way of allowing prices to rise without wages doing in-kind proportionately?

Of course, because their wages are notoriously high, and therefore the damage affecting them will be minimal. God forbid a redistribution of wealth to allow society as a whole to survive, they need their larger slice of cake. They need to maintain their luxuries.

Hey, in this regard, are they not consumers too?
Of course, they are not referring to THEMSELVES as consumers. They are referring to those below.

Consumers. Ants. Pigs. Vermin.

Hamsters on a wheel. Was it not what Robert Abela invited us to do when the partial lockdown was lifted? To go forth and spend?

Still later….

“I want to see people travel, I want to see restaurants and bars packed with people […] I want the economy to boom.” November 29, 2020

Ironically, in the same event, he said the above words, and he insisted on thinking in terms of “us” instead of “myself.”

A shame that “us” is selective.

God forbid they are as affected as the rest of us.
