Lest We Forget

Flowers on a monument are meaningless.

A monument is meaningless if the events are not remembered.
Here is a story that should ring familiar; prices for living were going ridiculously high, especially to cater for conflicts, not of our own. Wages were frozen, and the excess profits were hoarded by those who hold the keys to the kingdom.

Sounds familiar?

Only back then, did people fight back and people paid for it with their lives.

Of course, we need not fight with guns and pitchforks, but we have the democratic rights that we can fight with. I do not condone violence of any kind.

Of course, that is the simplistic version; you can search the more detailed narrative on Youtube or anywhere around the web, searching “Sette Giugno in Malta”.  

But I cannot say there is hypocrisy to the image of the flowers adorning the monument.

History is not there as fiction. It is there to be reflected upon.
